JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Reports to: Domestic Violence/Sexual Violence Community & Mobile Services Program Director

 

Job summary: Supports diverse survivors of sexual violence in pursuing avenues of healing and justice.

 

Against Abuse, Inc. (AAI) is seeking passionate team members! Located in rural Pinal County, AZ, AAI strives to bring safety and healing to survivors of sexual violence, dating and domestic violence, sexual harassment, sex trafficking, and stalking via trauma-informed crisis services, advocacy, and supports. We strive to create and maintain a community without violence for the safety and well-being of all persons. Advocates at AAI work with clients to ensure their rights are upheld, needed resources are identified and provided, and empower clients as they begin their healing journey.

 

Essential Job Duties

Survivor Advocacy | 90%

  • · Provide immediate and ongoing support, including mobile advocacy and coordination of services.

 

· Assist survivors in their process of recovery and establishing safety and stability. Activities may include but are not limited to: crisis intervention; emotional support; case management; safety planning; navigating resources related to housing and benefits; assisting in coordination of school accommodations or IEPs; and lay legal advocacy, including assistance with the address confidentiality program, restitution, and navigating legal systems and options.

 

· Serve as an advocate for the expressed interests of survivors with all intervening agencies, including law enforcement, legal, medical, etc. and provide survivors information regarding their rights and options.

 

· Provide support and advocacy services, liaison services, and care to survivors, including accompaniment and advocacy during Sexual Assault Forensic Examinations, court hearings, and interactions with law enforcement, probation, and prosecutors.

 

· Provide support, referrals, and information related to community resources, crime victim’s rights, crime victim compensation information and applications, and orders of protection as appropriate.

 

· Safeguard documents and all information pertaining to survivors, always being mindful of the survivors’ right to confidentiality. Complete accurate documentation in a timely manner.

 

· Participate in on-call rotation schedule for responding to survivors and supporting the provision of 24/7 services to survivors.

 

Community Outreach/Education, Personal Development Training, & Meetings | 10%

· Participate in making presentations about services and provide training and education to community partners, including but not limited to law enforcement, schools, FACs, and other community organizations.

 

· Promote sexual violence prevention, awareness, and response advocacy.

 

· Work collaboratively with all community agencies involved in the survivor’s recovery process. Develop and maintain partnerships with: local law enforcement agencies to increase access to and utilization of mobile advocacy services and encourage best practices when working with survivors; local hospitals, FACs, and healthcare and behavioral healthcare providers to increase access to health and well-being services for survivors.

 

· Provide a positive, professional, and enthusiastic image of the agency to the community at large.

 

· Complete required trainings, including ACESDV’s (Arizona Coalition to End Sexual & Domestic Violence) 40-hour Sexual Violence Core Advocacy Training & 40-hour “The Sharing Experience,” along with all other required trainings to maintain best practices and victim-advocate privilege.

· Expertise in the areas of domestic/sexual violence, mental health, criminal justice, & court-based advocacy.

· Knowledge of community resources to provide information and referrals to survivors.

· Ability to work with people of various ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds and sexual orientation and gender identities.

· Knowledge of laws and legal proceedings relating to domestic and sexual violence.

· Advanced experience in speaking in front of diverse audiences and the ability to adapt materials quickly so that the audience can understand the concepts being presented.

· Extensive knowledge of criminal justice systems in AZ, mental health issues, safety issues, and crisis intervention.

· Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of personnel, both inside and outside of the organization, including health care providers, community providers, and law enforcement.

· Proficiency with computer programs such as Zoom, Google Docs/Slides/Sheets, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

· Ability to exercise independent initiative and judgment and function as a team player.

· Ability to problem-solve and identify needed procedural and policy changes.

· Ability to manage voluminous and sensitive caseloads.

· Bilingual candidates and candidates with experience serving LGBT survivors are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Required minimum qualifications

· An understanding of the nature of sexual violence and believing survivors when they choose to disclose.

· A commitment to equitable, unbiased service provision and advocacy for survivors.

· Knowledge of crisis intervention skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and follow through with minimal direction.

· Ability to work with compassion and patience in high stress situations

· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and tact; ability to maintain poise and professional courtesy under pressure.

· Exercises mature professional judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of advocacy skills.

· Advanced skills in assessing levels of emotional distress and reacting appropriately.

 

Conditions of employment

· Must be able to obtain and maintain a level one fingerprint clearance card.

· Must pass all applicable records and background checks.

· Must be 21 years of age or older.

· A current, valid Arizona Driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a reliable car are essential for this position as some travel may be required.

 

Work locations: Office locations in Maricopa & Casa Grande. Expected to respond to community locations including but not limited to hospitals, FACs, police departments, and courts throughout Pinal County.

 

Schedule & expected hours

· 40 hours/week, option for flexible schedule, depending on needs of survivors.

· On-call, including days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays

 

Position type & duration: Full-time. THIS POSITION IS FULLY GRANT FUNDED. While it is anticipated that continuation funding will be available, it is not guaranteed.
