7/24/2008 – Against Abuse, Inc. has received $35,000 through the Child Abuse Prevention License Plate Program – a partnership between The Arizona Republic and the Governor’s Office for Children, Youth & Families.

Against Abuse, Inc. is one of 25 agencies funded through the Child Abuse Prevention License Plate Program during this year’s grant cycle.  Against Abuse, Inc. provides social and behavioral health services to Pinal County and is dedicated to helping individuals and the community understand the nature and effects of family violence and provides resources to meet the needs of those abused.  The $35,000 award will assist in funding the Child Abuse Prevention outreach and education program.

“We are very excited to begin the education and awareness campaign so that the public can better understand the detrimental effects that abuse, neglect and witnessing violence can have on a child” said Patricia Griffen, Executive Director of Against Abuse, Inc.

Nearly 40,000 of the blue “It shouldn’t hurt to be a child” license plates are on the road today, making it the most popular specialty plate in Arizona.  This year, $781,000 will be distributed, including matching funds from The Arizona Republic Charities and its funding partners: Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, Virginia G. Piper Charitable Trust, BHHS Legacy Foundation, Arizona Community Foundation and Valley of the Sun United Way.

Of the $25 license plate purchase price, $17 plus match from The Arizona Republic Charities, goes directly to primary prevention efforts.  More than $5.5 million has been distributed to date.

For more information on the Child Abuse License Plate Program, contact Trisha Stuart, The Arizona Republic, at 602.444.8205.

Feeling the Economic Crunch?

To our incredible partners,

Times are getting tough for the families we work with, as well as many of our fellow co-workers.  As partners in our communities, we play an important role in strengthening and supporting our communities, particularly in tough economic times. With record home foreclosures, restrictions in the credit market, and increasing gasoline and food costs, many people need a simple way to access information about the resources and assistance available to them in their communities. Having information about supportive resources can make these difficult times a little easier. Being able to locate and access support services is key.

Governor Napolitano’s Children’s Cabinet, in partnership with the United Way and other community partners, has developed an informational campaign – Feeling the Economic Crunch? Find the Financial Help You Need – aimed at Arizonans who are currently experiencing financial stressors who may not know where to turn, or who are not used to reaching out for help.

The campaign includes a Feeling the Economic Crunch? brochure and an easy to navigate feature site on www.AZ211.gov. Information is available in four major areas, including: Housing, Employment, Family Stress and Wellness, and Paying the Bills.

The brochure gives an overview of places individuals can contact for information and assistance, and the easy-to-navigate AZ 2-1-1 feature site includes more detailed information and tips in many areas, including debt/financial assistance, saving on household bills and gas, and health insurance or counseling.

Please visit the Feeling the Economic Crunch? feature site at www.AZ211.gov to find more details on ways you can find help for yourself, the families you work with, and your relatives, friends or neighbors.
You can help by downloading the brochure and the useful tips to share with people you know – however, consider first sharing the information electronically or in conversations.  This is not the AZ211 of old it has been greatly enhanced and is well worth taking a look at.
If you have a business contact encourage them to post a link to their own website for their employees and customers.  Just e-mail them the following paragraph which walks them through adding the "widget" to their site. Please let us know if you do this as we would love to know just how far our CPIP reach is.
You can include the Feeling the Economic Crunch? application directly on your website by visiting the “Spread the Word” page on the Feeling the Economic Crunch? feature site at AZ 2-1-1 or by clicking http://www.az211.gov/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=1056&Itemid=62 for the Widget and to share your ideas. If you or any of the partners you work with to spread the word would like to add your logo to the Community Partners site on AZ 2-1-1’s Feeling the Economic Crunch feature site, please contact Justin Turner, 211 Webmaster at jturner@azgita.gov. Justin can also help you if you have questions uploading the widget.
If you have any questions about the campaign or would like some ideas on how to get this information out to people who need it, please contact one of us.  Together we can help each other and the individuals and families we serve and weather this economic storm.
